Journey Week, February 1- 7, 2025
Journey Week. 60+ volunteer Journey Educators and Ambassadors visit 200+ Hilo -Waiākea classes, grades 2 through 12. Classroom visits consist of engaging hands-on activities focused on astronomy and STEM fields. Career panels are also held during this time at the Intermediate and High schools.
ʻOhana Stargazing, February 1, 2025
Join ʻOhana Kilo Hōkū and the Maunakea Observatories at Liliʻuokalani Gardens from 6pm to 9pm for stargazing, telescope viewing, and Native Hawaiian sky stories.
Welcome Reception, February 3, 2025
The Hawaiʻi Island Chamber of Commerce and Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hawaiʻi will host the annual Journey Welcome Reception at the international Gemini Observatory Base Facility from 5pm to 8pm.
Astronomy on Tap, February 6, 2025
In this Journey Through the Universe edition of Astronomy on Tap, three guest speakers will share their passion and expertise on different astronomy topics at the Hilo Town Tavern from 7 pm to 9 pm.
Hale Hōkū, October 2024 - April 2025
Hale Hōkū Program visits Pre-K through 1st Grade classes with lessons in Gemini’s Portable Planetarium.
Journey Through the Universe Educator’s Workshop, December 12, 2024
The annual Journey Educator Workshop prepares our volunteer presenters and classroom assistants for their visits during Journey Week. This year’s workshop included talks by Journey co-leads Leinani Lozi, Emily Peavy and Mariesa Venzon and Hilo-Waiakea Complex Area Superintendent, Esther Kanehailua. Our final speaker Alexis Acohido shared her Journey presentation on Helu Pō showcasing Hawaiʻi Astronomy and indigenous knowledge.
