Lighting a Path to the Stars
In this image, the paths of roads leading up to Maunakea are clearly visible thanks to the trailing lights of cars traversing them. The Milky Way is visible overhead, as is the light of natural airglow, light pollution from the city of Hilo, the zodiacal light, and the lights of buildings atop the mountain. On the left is the Gemini North telescope, part of the International Gemini Observatory, a program of NSF's NOIRLab.
