Gemini Science Archive Logo

Gemini's unique online open database was first proposed in the late 1990s by Fred Gillett and others. The GSA architecture has been developed by the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC), located at the Herzberg Institute for Astrophysics, in Victoria, B.C. Canada. CADC has vast experience with science archive development, a strong bond and cooperative partnership with Gemini and its staff, and shares the observatory's commitment to provide an exceptional product. The resulting state-of-the-art science archive rivals, and in some cases surpasses, those developed in recent years for space-borne observatories. The current and previous GSA Project Scientists, Colin Aspin and Inger Jorgensen, respectively, plus their counterpart at CADC, David Bohlender, have worked very closely on the development of the GSA, and together with the CADC software team of Adrian Damian, Sharon Goliath, Geoffrey Melnychuk, Ling Shao, Norman Hill and project manager Séverin Gaudet, have successfully met the many and varied goals set by Fred Gillett, Matt Mountain, Jean-Rene Roy, and Phil Puxley, the Gemini Science Committee, and Gemini Board.
