Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph spectrum of the GRB host galaxy GRB050709
Composite image shows the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph spectrum of the GRB host galaxy GRB050709 which was determined from this data to have a redshift of z = 0.16 giving it a distance of about 1.9 billion light years. Color inset images of the galaxy from the Hubble Space Telescope show the GRB (left) and one month later (right) once the GRB had faded.
