GNIRS near-infrared spectrum with the best model fit
GNIRS near-infrared spectrum (dotted line) with the best model fit. The observed spectrum is consistent with a combination of 3 model contributions: 1) a pure hydrogen white dwarf with T = 10,000 K and of 0.6 Solar mass; 2) a T =1400 K (L8 type) brown dwarf of 60 Jupiter masses; and 3) cyclotron emission produced by high energy electrons accelerated in the 7 megagauss magnetic field of the white dwarf.
