Removing the Rubin Commissioning Camera
On 11 August 2023, the Rubin Commissioning Camera (ComCam) was removed from the telescope mount. The 114-megapixel ComCam is a 'practice camera,' a smaller and simpler version of the full 3200-megapixel LSST Camera that will be the centerpiece of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory's Simonyi Survey Telescope. During the year that the ComCam was installed on the telescope mount, it was used to verify the interfaces of the LSST Camera with the rest of the observatory. It also produced the first astronomical data from the Simonyi Survey Telescope. This 'commissioning data' is scheduled for release in mid-2024.
