New light-pollution-compliant lighting in Vicuña

To support the care of the night sky in the Elqui Valley, AURA and NOIRLab presented the municipality of Vicuña with modern light-pollution-compliant lighting, which was installed in the central part of the square. These lights, which have a specialized amber filter that removes virtually all light from the blue part of the spectrum, comply with the new standard for lighting which will soon be enacted across Chile. This project was developed by experts at the Office for the Protection of the Skies of Northern Chile (OPCC).
