Preparing for restart at SOAR
CTIO detector engineer Marco Bonati is monitoring the vacuum on SOAR’s Spartan infrared camera, getting ready to start cooling with liquid nitrogen. The optics and detector are cooled to liquid nitrogen temperature, but first the volume surrounding the cooled structure needs to be evacuated to provide insulation from ambient temperature.
