TMA Arrival and Transport

The LSST Telescope Mount Assembly (TMA) was built in Spain and shipped to Chile in August, 2019 on a ship named Lisa Auerbach. In Spain, the huge structure was disassembled into more than 25 individual pieces for transport; each piece was wrapped in sturdy vinyl to protect it during shipping. The ship arrived in Coquimbo in early September, and the TMA cargo was unloaded and transported to the summit on a fleet of specialized transport vehicles operated by Javier Cortes S.A.
