Citizen Science Program: Baby Star Search
We are looking for Herbig-Haro (HH) objects, which are jets of gas produced by newly-forming protostars. HH objects are quite rare, only about a thousand of them are known to exist! They are important because they can show us where stars are forming. We are searching for HH objects in giant clouds of gas inside the Milky Way galaxy using the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) on the Víctor M. Blanco 4-meter telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) in Chile, a Program of NSF NOIRLab. The images produced by this camera are huge — 570 megapixels each — and we need your help to search them!
