Cerro Tololo's Starry Skies Timelapse
Captured on the night of 1 May 2022, this timelapse of the starry sky over Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) is mesmerizing. The foreground telescopes — the Víctor M. Blanco 4-meter Telescope hidden behind the SMARTS 1.5-meter Telescope — are buzzing with activity as they observe their respective astronomical targets. Meanwhile the colorful sky, dotted with stars and splashed with airglow, is a hypnotizing sight. A key feature of the southern sky is the Large Magellanic Cloud, seen as a fuzzy 'cloud' at the start of the timelapse (top right of the frame).
