29 September 2021 Halema‘uma‘u Eruption Captured from Gemini Observatory at Maunakea
Wednesday afternoon 29 September 2021 around 03:20 pm HST fissures within the Halema‘uma‘u Crater, the summit caldera of Kīlauea Volcano on the island of Hawai‘i, opened up. The brightly glowing lava was captured by one of the weather cameras at the international Gemini Observatory on Maunakea.
The time-lapse movie starts Wednesday evening at about 7:00 pm HST and runs until 06:00 am HST Thursday morning. The true summit peak of Maunakea itself is directly in front, slightly obscuring the Kīlauea caldera some 50 kilometers (30 miles) away.
All footage from the Gemini cloud cameras can be easily accessed here.
