Víctor M. Blanco 4-meter Telescope Dedication
The Víctor M. Blanco 4-meter Telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) in Chile was commissioned in 1974. It is a near twin of the Mayall 4-meter telescope on Kitt Peak in Arizona. On September 8 1995, it was dedicated and named in honor of Puerto Rican astronomer Víctor Manuel Blanco who, in 1967, became the second director of CTIO where he assembled the scientific, engineering, and technical staff from scratch. This archival footage celebrates the history of The Blanco 4m, all the individuals who contributed to its construction, and Víctor Manuel Blanco for his three decades of serving with AURA.
